8 Biggest Flaws In Red Dead Redemption 2

2. Clunky Combat That Lacks Challenge

Similar to nearly every mission replicating the same structure, the clunky and mindless combat is responsible for making Red Dead Redemption 2 frequently repetitive and tiresome. It doesn’t matter if you’re a novice or a pro gamer who pretends to have bedded everybody’s mum, the act of gunning down hundreds of bandits is a ridiculously easy chore that could be done with your eyes stapled shut.

While the A.I. can be smart, with gang members flanking you and hicks showing off their idiocy by running at you with knives in a gun fight, the auto-aim ruins everything. Rather than wasting your time with the returning dead eye system, it’s much easier to simply snap in and out of cover as you automatically lock onto enemies and still receive satisfying killcams.

However, although the combat is mostly too easy, with Rockstar still refusing to provide difficulty options, there are occasions it frustrates due to heavy handling and clunky cover mechanics. Exiting cover is always a pain due to how much Arthur sticks to objects, and occasionally the game refuses to let you pull the trigger despite having a perfect shot with nothing in the way.

Combat has never been the strongest component of any Rockstar game not called Max Payne, yet it’s baffling that their releases continue to suffer from outdated gameplay that everybody was moaning about back in 2011 with L.A. Noire.
