8 Biggest Flaws In Red Dead Redemption 2
3. There's No Incentive To Be Bad
The honour system in Red Dead Redemption 2 is initially an interesting mechanic that constantly reminds you of its existence. Saying ‘howdy’ to folks and rescuing damsels makes you honourable, while robbing campers, punching lasses and shooting barbers, unsurprisingly, makes you a total b*stard.
However, other than it being fun to put a bullet through the skulls of cowboys who rudely tell you to sod off, there is no incentive to be a wicked man. You don’t need to rob trains or innocent folk as you’ll always have too much money from completing missions, and there are no in-game benefits for being a cretin like there are for being a boy scout.
In addition, the excellent story pushes you to be a good boy by offering more missions and compelling character arc. Meanwhile, if you choose to be a baddie worse than even Micah, you're punished with fewer levels and a barely altered tale of redemption that doesn’t fit your actions.
Rockstar could have avoided this by making it apparent in chapter 6 that a decision between good and bad needed to be made. That way the story and characters could have adapted to your choice, and unique missions could have been made available for each path chosen, giving you an incentive to be bad as well as to replay the campaign.
