8 Characters You Didn't Realise Secretly Died In Their Own Video Games
2. Commander Shepard - Mass Effect 3
Bioware gave us a beautiful series in the Mass Effect trilogy, and chances are that if you made it to the end of the third instalment, you were as invested as I, treating Commander Shepard like one of your own.
That’s why the thought of our protagonist being broken down to a Reaper agent is so hard to bear.
The Indoctrination Theory surmises that over the course of the games, Shepard has been psychologically orchestrated, or “reprogrammed,” to operate on behalf of the Reapers, starting with the beacon on Eden Prime.
Even the final call to decide the fate of the universe is ultimately suggested to be a figment of Shepard’s imagination; an inner struggle he’s fabricated reaching the culmination of the indoctrination process.
Also note the Codex: “Should a Reaper subvert a well-placed political or military leader, the resulting chaos can bring down nations.”
Sounds like Shepard to us..
