8 Characters You Didn't Realise Secretly Died In Their Own Video Games

3. Nathan Drake - Uncharted 4

Wolfenstein 2
Naughty Dog

Nathan Drake is the Indiana Jones of the modern age. He’s funny, kindhearted and has that impossible, year-round five o’clock shadow that seems unattainable in real life.

Too bad Naughty Dog hid his death from us, eh?

The title, “A Thief’s End,” perhaps hinted at this all along, but we’re left to decide whether that’s the case, as the game ends with all seemingly hunky dory.

But there’s an earlier point where all goes awry. Drake is on the verge of losing Elena, has just seen his brother Sam shot in the back, and to cap it off he’s sent hurtling off a cliff, suffering a mighty bump on the head.

We’re nursed back to health by a Elena, conveniently placed in the jungle, who also happens to be well on her way to forgiveness for Nate’s lying.

Not to mention, Sully and Elena just happen to find him... in the middle of a jungle... after not being told where he was going?

The idea instead, is that all this and the rest of the game is the afterlife.

It’s no coincidence series writer Amy Hennig departed Naughty Dog prior to Uncharted 4, replaced by Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, who directed The Last Of Us.

Perhaps this was their secret way of stamping a more story-driven conclusion on Drake’s now rather heartbreaking tale.
