8 Failed Video Game Mascot Characters
3. Glover
Even if you've never played puzzle-platformer Glover, there's a good chance you recognise the title character, because he sure does stand out in the sea of also-ran gaming mascots.
The sentient, gloved right hand of a wizard, Glover embarks on an adventure to save both his wizard and his kingdom, with the player primarily tasked with guiding a ball across stages using their four digits.
Glover certainly gets points for its unique character design and inspired gameplay mechanics, but that simply didn't translate to wider interest, especially with younger players typically drawn to anthropomorphic animals above all else.
Glover initially sold well enough for a sequel to enter development, though Glover 2 was ultimately cancelled late in production due to publisher Hasbro over-estimating demand for the first game and producing far too many cartridges.
With a wealth of stock they couldn't sell, Hasbro decided to cut bait by cancelling Glover 2, and like that, the character's run ended after a single game.
Thankfully for anyone who wants to conveniently revisit it, Glover was finally released on Steam in 2022, and a port for current-gen platforms is set to drop later this year.
