8 Great Video Games Remembered For ONE Thing
3. "Sus" - Among Us
Though it launched to little attention in 2018, Among Us became a veritable pop-culture phenomenon during the onset of the pandemic, the social deduction game serving as a unique way for players to socialise with friends while remaining home during lockdown.
Among Us also helped bring the slang word "sus" back into popular use, for though the term - short for "suspicious" or "suspect" - has been used for decades in countries such as the UK and Australia, it enjoyed a global uptick in use thanks to Among Us.
The three-letter word was regularly written in the game's chat window to indicate suspicion that another player might in fact be an Impostor, and it quickly became the game's glorified catchphrase.
In turn, "sus" became more widely employed in the general lexicon, especially among younger generations, to describe situations or individuals deemed shady or suspicious, even completely divorced from the context of Among Us itself.
While Among Us' popularity has waned considerably in recent years, whenever you hear somebody use the word "sus" in everyday chit-chat, there's a good chance you'll immediately think of the game.
