8 Insane Video Game Events Hardly ANYONE Saw
4. A Glitch In Reality - No Man's Sky
Almost every last thing could be classed as a "live event" in No Man's Sky - such is the reality of its ever-expansing, procedurally generated shared universe tying us all together.
And yet, for a game initially launched in a fire of controversy and misinformation - a lot of it centring on things like multiplayer not being in the game - the No Man's Sky of 2020 is the biggest, most expansive sci-fi simulation experience on consoles. Whilst there are new free content packs every few months, 2018 saw Hello Games start their first "live event" with shared rewards for those playing at the time.
Coming from in-game explorers Nada and Polo finding a "glitch in reality" that leads to an entirely new galaxy, players were tasked with exploring and digging underground on as many new planets as possible. Finding "Quicksilver", Hello Games set up a storefront with unique rewards like base building parts or cosmetics to trade in return.
This has blossomed into weekly events inside No Man's Sky, many of which are story-related, forever expanding a game that started as an indie tech experiment all those years ago.
