3. Detroit: Become Human

When it's out: Q1/Q2

What it is: Quantic Dream's first game in over half a decade, following the divisive Beyond: Two Souls back in 2013.

As with it and predecessor Heavy Rain, industry auteur David Cage has penned the script for Detroit: Become Human (two years in the making, no less), so expect the usual - non-linear narratives multiple (and perishable) playable characters and a whole lot of philosophical commentary on what it means to be human.

Cage's work isn't for everyone - instant gratification this is not - but Quantic's framework for Detroit looks to be much more interactive than past products of Cage's pen hand.

With action being one part of the neo-noir thriller's descriptor, getting to the bottom of Detroit's mysterious android uprising will involve more than a Telltale-like interactive story. This could be the seamless meshing of mature storytelling and meaningful gameplay that have always struggled to find a balance in Cage's past efforts.

Bring it on.
