Oh, Samus. How we've missed you. It's been a long time since we've seen a proper first-party Metroid game, and with fans clamouring for another piece of the action, it feels like the right time to service the critically acclaimed series with a true successor.

Nintendo has shown that the franchise can work in both a 2D and 3D environment and still be immensely successful, so it would be almost foolish to not even attempt to revive it for the Switch. A sequel to Metroid Prime would be the obvious choice, and it would be interesting to see how they incorporate the new control scheme into the gameplay.

Samus' Morph Ball ability could be a marvellous use of the Joy-Con's HD Rumble feature, with the updated motion sensors allowing for greater freedom of movement. Circle-strafing could also be a triumphant example of how effective the Joy-Cons are at handling a first person environment.

A Metroid Prime game, much like a new Uncharted on a Sony console, would be a definitive system seller for Nintendo. It would also capture the imagination of fans who've been looking for more games that evoke the nostalgia of the Gamecube era. And maybe wipe the slate clean after the sweeping disappointment that was Federation Force...
