3. Having Too Many Mechanics! - Warhammer: Age Of Sigmar Storm Ground

For those who have never played a game of the tabletop giant known as Warhammer, firstly you're missing out as it's amazing fun, but secondly, if you do want to get into the experience, you're going to need to be ready to learn a TONNE of rules.

There are rules on how to build your army, core rules to actually play the game itself, rules about spells and powers, situational strategies to memories, stat lines to tattoo into your very brain, and of course, a million Keywords that affect different units and characters. It's quite overwhelming, to say the least.

Therefore, you'd think that when trying to present their own take on the Age Of Sigmar range that Gasket Games would make things as clear as possible.

However as you can tell from the tone of this piece, that's not the case, as the player is presented with a cacophony of keywords, terms, abilities, battle mechanics unique to this game and so much more that it's utterly overwhelming. However, the real villain of the piece is that barely any of these rules and mechanics are conveyed to the player clearly, meaning that the deep, rewarding, and often fun gameplay is hampered by the player never feeling like they have true control over what's going on.

Plus things aren't helped by the fact that another in-game mechanic, one which turns unspent summoning resources into another resource that allows players on the field to cast spells and powers is utterly broken. I say this because some of the skills available to some units are one-shot kills and can see you wipe the board just by waiting things out. When a few skills dominate this badly, it throws balance, along with enjoyment out of the window.
