8 Retro Video Game Consoles You Should Definitely Play In 2020
4. Nintendo 64
Nintendo’s 1997 offering, the N64, saw moderate success with just over 30 million units sold during a six or so year lifespan, but was home to some of the most ground-breaking and iconic games of all time.
Available today for around £40-£60, the N64 was a no-nonsense gaming machine devoid of bells and whistles, choosing to stick with cartridges in the age of CD rom-based games, and housing four controller ports for local co-op sessions.
Speaking of which, the only real curiosity showcased by the N64 was the aforementioned controller.
With its bizarre “M” shape, its single analogue stick and its protruding back section for add-ons such as the Rumble Pak (their spelling), it could be a difficult beast for some to tame.
As for the games themselves, the N64 was a bit of a juggernaut.
It's hard to imagine what modern day gaming would look like without such legendary titles as Goldeneye 007, Super Mario 64, and Ocarina of Time setting new standards in their respective genres whilst simultaneously creating the blueprint for 3D gaming going forward.
Luckily, these legendary games can actually be purchased today for less than £10 loose, but the collectable nature of complete in box versions will obviously cost you more.
With additional titles in the N64 library like Pokémon Stadium, Majora's Mask, Banjo-Kazooie, Star Fox 64 and many more, there is a lot to recommend the system in 2020.
