8 Retro Video Game Consoles You Should Definitely Play In 2020
2. Super Nintendo Entertainment System
1425415The '90s were a very competitive decade.
Whether it was Coca Cola vs. Pepsi, Blur vs. Oasis, or Manchester United vs. pretty much everyone else, rivalries were everywhere.
Exponentially more intense than the previous examples, however, was Nintendo vs. Sega and, in microcosm, Mario vs. Sonic.
Whilst we do have our fair share of PlayStation and Xbox zealots around today, it is widely accepted that you can enjoy both, and also have a Nintendo handy for parties.
This was certainly not the prevailing wisdom of the '90s, when you were either team Mario or team Sonic, with zero middle ground.
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) arguably had the better brand recognition, with the original NES far more successful than the Sega Master System.
Widely available today for around £25-£35, the SNES is a tremendous proposition for those looking for a classic gaming fix.
Looking now to the games, legendary titles like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart, F-Zero and Super Metroid are all available to pick up online at a range of prices depending on condition (serious collectors can pay upwards of £75-£100 per game), but a used cartridge will normally be under £12.
With such an impressive library of games, and one of the best, most comfortable controllers in gaming history straight out of the box, only an idiot would overlook the SNES as a retro gaming powerhouse.
