8 Retro Video Game Consoles You Should Definitely Play In 2020
1. Sega Mega Drive
Released in 1990 as the follow up to the moderately well received Master System, the 16-bit Mega Drive (or Genesis in the USA) was a huge hit, selling more than 30 million units worldwide.
Fast forward to 2020 and, while the system is now 30 years old, picking one up is relatively straightforward.
A mainstay of online auction sites and usually around the £30-50 mark depending on condition, a boxed Mega Drive with cables and controllers is not an expensive proposition.
But what use is a console without games?
While most Mega Drive systems came bundled with a certain Sonic the Hedgehog, this was only the tip of the iceberg. Designed primarily to allow players access to Sega’s hugely successful range of arcade games at home, the Mega Drive’s library was always going to be robust.
Titles like Golden Axe, Street of Rage, and Super Thunder Blade filled out its roster, while classics like Disney’s Aladdin and The Lion King were the cherries on top.
Add some more mature titles like Mortal Kombat 2 and RoboCop Versus The Terminator to the mix, and you can see why this console was such a smash hit.
As for the price of these games in 2020, most Mega Drive titles can be picked up in box for between £7-£20, cheaper still loose.
