4. Rockstar Make Fun Of Driver's Bad Animation - GTA III
The Driver franchise bears a number of striking similarities to the more popular Grand Theft Auto series, and Rockstar weren't willing to let it go unnoticed.
Driver 2 took a step just a little too far into GTA's territory by allowing players to exit their vehicles and steal the cars of pedestrians, and Rockstar decided that they needed to knock developer Reflections Interactive down a peg or two.
In GTA III, the developers included a mission named "Two-Faced Tanner", in which players must track and kill a "strangely animated undercover cop". It also dubs him as "more or less useless out of his car", delivering two scathing insults to the rival franchise just moments into the mission. Rockstar even recreated Tanner's vehicle and distinct running animation, not leaving much room for any ambiguity.
The jokes at the Driver protagonist's expense didn't stop there, though. Another character named Tanner was included in the game's sequel, GTA: Vice City, except this one was very maturely given the first name "Dick", and he too was swiftly gunned down by the player during the course of the game.
