8 Times You Lost Thanks To A Video Game Cutscene

2. Vergil - Devil May Cry 3

The sibling rivalry between Dante and Vergil in the Devil May Cry series rises far above the brothers arguing over which toys belong to who, as often when the pair meet, they rain destruction and chaos down around everything nearby.

Such a conflict takes place in Devil May Cry 3's opening sections as the brothers square off to once again argue about their father issues and push each other's buttons. In the ensuing fight, the player (as Dante) gets to show off all of the neat tricks the gun for hire can muster and will take down Vergil in short order. However, as the cutscene triggers, all those cocksure moves you've been pulling off fall by the wayside as you take your own sword to the chest thanks to Vergil.

Well, two in fact, in quite brutal fashion.

The scene is played (at first) like Vergil always had the upper hand despite being beaten by Dante, but by the end, with Dante back on his feet and displaying his true power, Vergil is shown to run away from the battle.

Which makes it a weird case of you winning a fight, losing in a cutscene, but coming back stronger?
