8 Video Game Achievements You'll NEVER Unlock

Just don't bother.

At one point in time video game achievements seemed like they would be the next big thing since digitally sliced bread for the industry, and it seemed that developers all over the world went frothy at the mouth at the open-ended possibilities of what they could force players to go through in exchange for a sweet chime-like pop sound effect and an engraving made next to their profile.

Now, for the most part, these devs were pretty amicable, offering up such rewards for completing story content and using the medium of trophies and achievements as a means of keeping the player invested in the narrative, pushing them on with the promise of more bragging rights and the now valued end result of "100% completion".

Some absolutely cheeky scamps decided that instead of a reward though, this new power would be used to punish players who didn't search every corner of the world map, invest hundreds or hours or simply didn't have a high enough Luck stat.

This horrible concoction makes up the heady brew we're about to sip from today my friends, as the 'cheevs on this list felt like climbing a mountain made of broken glass only to reach the summit and be told the prize is actually buried underneath it.

So let's take a look at video game achievements that through sheer challenge or terrible RNG became almost impossible to get!

8. Stampers Forever - Rare Replay

Rare

Oh Rare, how we miss you in this current age of gaming.

For a while, this company produced so many instant classics that it was like the company was born with the Midas touch, yet once Microsoft actually showed them the power of bank balances, Rare faded into the rafters to be forgotten to time immemorial.

However younger gamers did get a chance to experience the dev team's quality, albeit years too late, in the form of the little ray of sunshine that was the Rare Replay collection, a curated playlist of many of the team's best games, all up-rezzed tweaked to perfection. However while many praised this release for its commitment to reminding the world of Rare's achievements, it hid a rather nasty one of it's own in the form of "Stampers Forever".

This 'cheev took the form of collecting ever single stamp within the game, themselves being smaller meta-styled trophies for each title within the collection, and as such meant that in order to net "Stampers Forever" you'd have to 100% every title in the pack!

Completing one of these games fully was a hard enough challenge, but collecting 330 stamps across every title? That's a hard pass from me friend.

No wonder only 0.1% of players who own this have this achievement unlocked!
