8 Video Game Bosses That Subtly Told You How To Beat Them

4. Sniper Wolf (Metal Gear Solid)

As the name implies, Sniper Wolf is pretty good from long range. Unfortunately for you though, that's exactly the distance her boss battle is normally fought at.

Taking place in a snowy field, Snake engages the villain in a one-on-one sniper duel, eventually coming out on top when he pierces her lung with a well-placed bullet. It's not really an enjoyable fight though, with poor visibility and a constantly-moving target sucking a lot of fun out of the encounter.

Luckily, there's a much more entertaining and efficient way to defeat Sniper Wolf, one that she actually hints at during a cutscene earlier in the game.

After Sniper Wolf wounds Snake's companion Meryl and lures the hero into a trap, she taunts him by saying "it's hard to miss when you're this close", while she has him cornered - at close range - with her gun. The line seems fairly innocuous at first, but the clue is that it's much easier to take her down when you're close to her, as opposed to fighting in the long-distance battles she greatly prefers.

And this proves to be correct. Instead of having a dull snipe-off, simply move to the side when the battle starts and whip out your remote-controlled Nikita missile, and send a few flying her way. It really is hard to miss when you can guide the explosive so close to her skin that you can practically smell her. Thanks for the tip, Wolfy.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
