8 Video Game Bosses That Subtly Told You How To Beat Them

Unbeknownst to a lot of fans, there were a few Zelda-inspired games released exclusively on the Philips CD-i, one of the oft-forgotten consoles of the 1990s.

Unfortunately though... they're not very good. With their bland and repetitive side-scrolling gameplay, laughably bad animated cutscenes and overall lack of content, they're not even regarded as official entries in the series, and it's easy to see why.

But are they at least challenging to play, so you get some sense of accomplishment from beating them? Well, not exactly, and this is no better illustrated than by looking at the boss battles in Link: The Faces Of Evil, many of which can be defeated in a matter of seconds, and one of which - the big green monster called Glutko - will signpost the easiest way for Link to beat him.

From the second you encounter this guy, he starts going on about food. He says that he wants "mashed Link for the main course", and that he's "simply famished", but the designers didn't make him complain for no good reason.

In actual fact, all that talk of food is actually a clue to "feed him" by chucking a bomb down his throat. Do this, and he'll go down instantly. Not so hungry now that you're a pile of fleshy chunks, are you big dude?

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
