7. The Spy Is The Scout's Father - Team Fortress 2
The most prominent theory in early Team Fortress 2 fandom was that The Spy was actually the secret father of another one of the game's classes, The Scout.
This was stirred up by various spin-off comics, which rather playfully hinted at the idea, with the Spy making reference to knowing the Scout's mother, and the Scout even having a nightmare that the Spy was his dad.
After almost a full decade of intensifying speculation, Valve finally confirmed this to be true in the 2017 comic "The Naked and the Dead," where the Spy comforts an apparently dying Scout in a decidedly fatherly way, albeit while disguised as the Welsh singer Tom Jones.
While the reveal is itself rather aptly suffused within layers of deception - he is the Spy, after all - that's about as blatant a confirmation as we're ever likely to get that the fan theory was indeed totally on the money.
