8 Video Game Secrets That ONLY Appear On Xmas Day
3. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! - Code Based Christmas!
To be honest, I could just have this entry be something about how Donkey Kong Country 3 is like having Christmas every single day seeing how utterly brilliant it is, but Rare, the cheeky little whippets, actually ended up sneaking in a secret that made the festive season even better.
You see while there is no dedicated Easter Egg that triggers on Christmas Day itself, seeing as the SNES didn't have an internal clock, the developers instead programmed a tonne of festive fun into the game and then hid it so that only a special code would unlock it all again.
If you access the code input screen on the game and put in MERRY, you'll not actually see all that much change at first, and may even think to yourself it's a meta-commentary on how we struggle to achieve happiness, BUT NO! Access one of the bonus stages and you'll get a new task of collecting baubles while a merry Xmas theme plays in the background.
It's a bonus in every sense and will melt even the biggest of banana pinching Grinches hearts.
