8 Video Games EVERYONE Got Obsessed With
1. Vampire Survivors
Though Vampire Survivors might technically be a roguelike, it's been jokingly referred to by many as a "crack-like," owing to its absurdly addictive gameplay loop.
As with Among Us, the game had a relatively obscure launch in 2021, rarely manging to pass more than a few-dozen concurrent players, but by early 2022 following its Steam release, Vampire Survivors became a veritable hit, scoring more than 30,000 concurrents on the platform alone.
The game's unique "bullet heaven" gameplay style, focused more on auto-combat and roguelike progression, helped it stand out in a crowded genre field, and the fact that it was sold for just a few bucks made it an easy buy for millions.
It's an easy game to jump into for, say, 15 minutes on your lunch break and simple enough to appeal to casual players, yet offers enough challenge and replay value to keep the die-hards coming back.
Vampire Survivors even moved the needle enough to win a surprise BAFTA Game Award for Game of the Year, stealing it from widely expected victor God of War: Ragnarök. Who could've possibly seen that coming when the game launched?
