The games in the Uncharted universe are among the most cinematic, entertaining, and beautifully animated for next-gen consoles. The hero, claiming that he's a distant relative of Sir Francis Drake - a real-life English sea captain - embarks on fantastic adventures and explorations, at the end reaching the typical trifecta of: women, fortune and fame.

Alfie Bown observes that all three are side-goals, as Drake's main obsession is with history, and the desire to explore the past has been actually implemented by Nathan's unconscious. In Drake's Deception, we learn that Nathan is not who we thought he was - instead of being Drake's ancestor, he is actually an orphan, who constructed the narrative to instil meaning in his life.

There are two victims of the titular deception: the gamer and Drake himself. Bown's Freudian analysis informs us that there's more to the game than money, marriage, orientalism and heroism.

All of these desires are not true, as "desire is always inherently political" which means it is shaped by the system of power just as much as it is able to shape the system of power as well.
