8 Ways All Video Games Are Becoming Exactly The Same
2. Loot Boxes Replacing Items You Used To Find Or Unlock
Prevalent in multiplayer games for years, the loot box system has become more popular than ever in recent months. Perhaps encouraged by the success of Overwatch, your favourite games have scrambled to steal the same reward system for themselves.
Removing content you'd usually unlock naturally in the game like skins or weapons and instead putting them into a lucky-dip system that generates content randomly, loot boxes have become the only way for players to access certain customisation options in modern titles.
But recently these randomly generated rewards have invaded single-player games too, set to be included in major upcoming releases like Shadow of War.
The problem is that the old system of unlocking content as you progressed was fine, and it's obvious that the only reason publishers have embraced the loot box system is because it makes them more money, not because it's a better option for players.
