SpongeBob has graced our consoles more than once or twice between his burger-flipping shifts at the Krusty Krab, most notably 2003's SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom.

But one of his outings that isn't as well-remembered is 2002's Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, which was released on PlayStation 2 and GameCube.

A 3D platformer, Revenge of the Flying Dutchman sees SpongeBob's beloved snail Gary kidnapped by the ghost of the Flying Dutchman, and he sets off to find a treasure hidden across Bikini Bottom that will help him defeat the pirate and rescue Gary.

The game takes place across seven different worlds, each of which containing nine letter tiles which combine to reveal the location of one of the treasures that will weaken the Dutchman.

While it doesn't have the most cerebral of plots, Revenge of the Flying Dutchman offers a lot by way of gameplay, and fans of the show are given an opportunity to explore all the corners of Bikini Bottom.

Boasting a score of 71 on Metacritic, it certainly isn't a masterpiece, but it's not without a certain nostalgic charm.
