9 Critically-Panned Video Games That Players Love

2. Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows

Marvel

Metacritic Score: 52

Despite being one of the worst reviewed Spider-Man games ever, Web of Shadows is actually one of the best gaming outings the Web Head has ever enjoyed. Coming out of the disastrous tie-in to the third movie, this new title attempted to shake off the influence of Sam Raimi's trilogy in favour of an original story, and boy does the liberation of that creative freedom show.

Placing the focus on the duality between everyone's favourite friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man and the symbiote black suit eating away at him, you could switch on the fly between the two different versions of the character, swapping agility for strength and impacting the ending depending on which costume you spent the most time in.

While the gameplay was pretty solid though, it was the world that fans loved the most. Cameos by heroes from across the Marvel Universe were rampant, making the game feel much more expansive than other Spidey tales. While the tie-in to the second film will be used as the baseline to judge Insomniac's upcoming PS4 effort, Web of Shadows should be the bar that game needs to clear.
