9 Heart-Breaking Gaming Moments When You Realised You Were The Bad Guy
6. Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow - The Epilogue
Lords Of Shadow is - for me at least - one of the best games this legendary series has to offer. It's gritty, realistic and painful (in a good way), so it has a distinctive tone that sets it apart from the older Castlevania games. It features many heartbreaking situations and the lore is astounding, but there is no moment in this game that comes even close to the revelation thrown at us in the post-credits scene.
To understand the tragedy of the main character, you have to play the game in its entirety, but to sum it up, Gabriel is manipulated into murdering his own wife to go him on a quest orchestrated by Satan himself. A quest during which he becomes a dark, distant person and finally turns into a vampire to finish what he started. After the credits roll, we see Zobek searching for our protagonist through a dilapitated church. As he finds him, we are treated to the sight of a weakened, vampiric visage that is the Dracul himself.
After a short confrontation, Dracula is thrown through the church window to reveal that we are no longer in medieval times. Thus, the setting for the sequel is set and we're left hoping for a closure that Gabriel deserves.
