9 Huge Video Games You Forgot Were Coming In 2019
5. Tom Clancy's The Division 2
Release date: March 15, 2019
It's the earliest of days in The Division 2's lifecycle and so it's impossible to say whether Massive Entertainment has absorbed all of the fan feedback for the original and funnelled it into crafting a better sequel, but there's one irritant that has already been ceremoniously eradicated.
Besides bringing to an end the perpetual winter of the original game, Massive's follow-up moves the action from New York City to the USA's capital, giving the game's environmental artists freedom to create something other than unremarkable, neverending rows of apartment buildings and skyscrapers. From the short demo shown at E3, Division 2 already appears scenically more varied because of the shift, and that's grand - but the jury's still out on how the core gameplay loop has improved.
The original Division was a solid game marred by confusing progression systems and a near-total lack of endgame activities to keep players engaged. As Bungie has learned since Destiny 2's launch, ensuring those features are in place at launch is critical to keeping the treadmill spinning so it's an area of critical import.
Fortunately, talk of 8-player raids and a year of free DLC to follow the game's launch should serve to give Division 2 a much stronger start than its predecessor.
