9 Huge Video Games You Forgot Were Coming In 2019
4. Yoshi's Crafted World
Release date: Spring 2019
Yoshi's solo career continues to flourish in 2019 with the same simple platforming beats that made predecessor Wooly World an accessible, joyous spin-off, this time with a twist. To counter the fair criticism lumped on Wooly World for its lack of mechanical depth, developer Good-Feel has introduced a clever perspective-changing element to compliment Yoshi's voracious appetite and egg-slinging combat manoeuvres.
At predetermined points in a stage, Yoshi can trigger a 180-degree swivel of the game world, revealing, among others, hidden areas, items and alternate routes, encouraging through examination and repeat playthroughs to ensure no hand-crafted cardboard stone goes unturned. It's a neat mechanic that, when coupled with Yoshi's newfound ability to interact with objects in any given stage's background, provides purpose to everything on-screen, leaving no space wasted.
It lacks the draw of, say, a new Zelda or Metroid title, but as a core member of the Nintendo family, Yoshi's first solo outing on Switch is a welcome one, especially for fans who declined to invest in the console's ill-fated predecessor.
