9 Insanely Long Video Game Unlocks That ARE Worth It
1. Big Metal Unit - Baldur’s Gate
As far as insanely long unlocks go this one is pretty hard to beat since even though plenty of entries on this list run for a dozen steps or even the entirety of their games, this side quest takes not one but three games to complete.
The Big Metal Unit is a set of armour made of full plate mail. You’ll craft it using the Golden Pantaloons from Baldur’s Gate 1, the Silver Pantaloons from Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, and the Bronze Pantalettes from Baldur’s Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal. Let’s also be clear, none of these items are independently easy to find or hang onto, either. Import your saves across each game and Kerrick the Smith will make you the fancy Big Metal Unit.
As the name implies this is indeed a hulking piece of gear. Not only does it change your avatar into that of an Iron Golem while you wear it, you also hilariously will no longer be able to fit through doors with it on.
The embarrassment of undressing to avoid jamming yourself in doorways aside, the armour has an impressive armour class of -10 with extra protections against slashing, piercing, and missile damage, as well as an immunity to backstab. While it’s a cool bit of gear the humour of it all is probably the cherry on top for those who committed to pulling this one together.
