The Stepladder is one of the oddest items in any ‘Zelda’ game. Its weirdness is twofold as it is an everyday item anyone has lying around their yard, and also through the fact that it isn’t even used as a ladder in the Legend of Zelda.

The Stepladder is actually more similar to the Flippers than it is an actual ladder. When the Stepladder is found, it is automatically equipped and grants the holder the ability to traverse short rivers and streams of water or lava. Dungeons that had winding pathways interlaced with water or lava blocks go from being an inconvenience to a walk in the park since Link can now just walk over those blocks with zero problems.

Another plus about the Stepladder is that like the Longshot and the Flippers before it, it makes more areas in Hyrule accessible.
