4. The Radiance - Hollow Knight
In order to nab the true ending to Hollow Knight, you need to face off against The Radiance. An all-white glowing beast that takes up the entire screen, the boss puts your 2D platforming skills to the test by having you avoid a constant barrage of attacks that require pixel-perfect dodging.
It's easy to miss windows for successful attacks for minutes as you jump from one safe space to another, trying to not get clipped by any one of her multi-dimensional attacks. It's worth it though, as defence is the best offence in this case, as a single risky move can result you in losing two full hearts of health.
Even if you had fully upgraded your character before the fight, The Radiance will still be able to take you out in a mere 5 hits, unless you've managed to boost up your health with potions and charms before stepping into the arena (which you should definitely do).
Hollow Knight is a bloody hard game to get through even without offering yourself up as tribute to this fiendish boss, but at least the beautiful, true ending you get after achieving victory makes the pain worth it.
