5. Levelling In Final Fantasy VIII Is A Waste Of Time
Levelling - along with silly hair and sillier clothes - is a staple of every JRPG out there. Final Fantasy VIII is no different, although it does handle levelling and character development in a unique way. Junctioning magic spells to stats allows you to boost a character without forcing experience down their throat, giving you the ability to make your characters near invincible with little time wasted. On the other side, this makes levelling almost redundant. In fact, levelling actually makes the game harder in many ways. Enemies in Final Fantasy VIII scale with your party; basically, while you're getting stronger so are your foes. Their stats increase a lot faster too, meaning that the higher you are in level, the tougher the enemies are. If you're going into the game blind and levelling up as per the norm, you could get to a point where even simple encounters become unbelievably challenging. It's why most people go through the game keeping their levels as slow as possible. You can still increase your stats through Junctioning and by doing so you're making the game less of a challenge at the same time. As a result, Final Fantasy VIII quickly becomes one of the most exploitable games around; one quick Google search and you'll have all the tools you need to walk through the game with little struggle.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
