9 Short Sentences That Ruin Major Video Games

3. The New Lara Croft Is A Murderous Psychopath

When Crystal Dynamics announced their intentions to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, you would have been forgiven for feeling apathetic; the series was never really the same after the travesty that was Angel Of Darkness. Thankfully, Crystal Dynamics absolutely nailed it with a new, fresh spin on the series and at the center of it all is a younger, less experienced Lara Croft; a character that we get to see develop and change over the course of the game. Is that change necessarily for the better though? It's fair to say that Lara's situation is pretty horrific. Her ship is wrecked on the coast of a mysterious island; it's inhabitants seem intent on brutally murdering her; and she's left completely on her own. As the game progresses, we cleverly see the island of Yamatai corrupt Lara; she goes from a meek, university student into a full-blown 80s action hero in the blink of an eye. Is there too quick of a transformation though? After Lara kills a man for the first time, she remarks how easy it was for her - she then proves this point by killing hundreds more over the course of the game. She literally ends up bathing in gore and you could argue that her kill count dramatically exceeds the cultists she's mowing down. You could also argue that the original Lara Croft was equally as psychopathic but never really to the extent shown here. While she never fully enjoys her murder spree (she never laughs about it or makes witty comments, unlike some heroes), she also sheds remorse and immerses herself into this world.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
