9 Video Game Failures That Made A Mockery Of Kickstarter
5. Night Trap ReVamped
What it was: A proposed remaster of the infamous Sega CD title that caused quite a stir back in the 90s for its 'realistic' depiction of violence and abundance of scantily-clad women. In reality, the only controversy it warranted was for its awful B-movie acting and production values.
Why it failed: Incompetence and poor planning, mostly. Various members of the development team responsible for the original banded together and launched a Kickstarter for Night Trap ReVamped in 2014. On the surface, it looked like a typical crowdfunding campaign like any other, but concerns quickly arose once backers did a little digging.
One particularly outlandish claim stated that the remaster would launch on Xbox 360 and PS3 - not Xbox One and PS4 - with physical copies intended to ship in commemorative paper sleeves, a practice that neither Microsoft or Sony had ever allowed before, let alone agreed to.
Events reached their boiling point when Kotaku published an interview with ReVamped's producer Tom Zito, wherein he sidestepped all of the concerns backers had with the project, abruptly ending the call when pushed further.
Unsurprisingly, the campaign ended with ReVamped raising just $40,000 of its $330,000 goal.
