9 Video Game Failures That Made A Mockery Of Kickstarter

1. Ant Simulator

What it was: As if the name didn't already give that away, Ant Simulator was intended to be the ultimate in wish fulfillment for lovers of the insect world, allowing players the opportunity to take control of and micromanage an entire colony of ants and their role in ant society, ranging from the lowly worker drone all the way up to the prestigious soldiers tasked with guarding the queen.

Why it failed: Ant Simulator didn't bite the bullet (ant) due to a lack of passion, attention or adequate funding. No, it was sabotaged from within by a group of scummy business partners, at least according to the game's programmer, Eric Tereshinki.

As so succinctly explained by VentureBeat, Tereshinki left the project mid-development after it came to his attention that a group of ex-business partners had squandered a large portion of the funds meant for development of the sim on booze, restaurants and - here's the real kicker - strippers.

A cautionary tale indeed, for any budding game designer wishing to break into the industry via crowdfunding.
