9 Video Games Nobody Wants To Admit Have Aged Terribly
6. Grand Theft Auto IV
GTA IV was a massively divisive game when it came out, with a lot of people heralding it as the greatest in the series, and just as many people condemning it for all the same reasons. However, it is clear to say that time has definitively taken the life out of Rockstar's more serious take on their flagship franchise, and it is all the more worse off in the end.
Putting aside the fact that GTA V completely outdid its predecessor, this first 'HD universe' entry is still a pretty weak game. The controls are clunky with the driving, shooting and overall handling of Niko almost seeming to actively work against the player. Add to that some abominable voice acting and a story that seems outdated even by the standards of when it came out, and you have a game whose wrinkles most definitely show in retrospect.
The whole game just feels 'off' and lacks the refinement of other open-world titles. Some people will argue that those flaws were there from the beginning, but time has not been a friend to GTA IV, and has only served to highlight the further outdated mechanics it attempts to rest heavily upon.
