9 Video Games You Never Thought You'd Get To Play

Honestly, we're as surprised as you are.

Cancelled games are nothing new to gamers, and what would have once been crushing news has made us somewhat apathetic over the years. Starcraft: Ghost, Scalebound, the real Prey 2, all of which are just fleeting memories that we sometimes try and remember.

Yet when a game that you think has, or probably should have, died gets a second wind and an actual release, we're surprised.

More often than not, the phrase "development hell" crops up, but that's more of a blanket excuse. We've had a whole range of reasons from changing developers, directors and key team members, to frivolous claims and boasts that never materialised.

It can be a couple of years that we wait, or it could be up into the double digits. It may be a title that the fan base has never let go of, or it's a title that makes us go, "Oh yeah. I'd forgotten about that".

However, as you'll see by some of these examples, that just because they did finally come out isn't always for the best. Sometimes a relic should be left buried rather than exhumed.

Cynicism aside, let's have a look at some games that we were all shocked to see finally come out.

9. The Last Guardian

Say what you will about The Last Guardian, I bloody love it. Yes, controlling Trico is an exercise in anger management, and the platforming sucks a fat one, but I don't care.

So, like the handful of other fans invested in this, I was worried when the years rolled by and less and less about Team Ico's follow on from the amazing Shadow of the Colossus came forward.

Certainly not helped by Fumito Ueda leaving during development, as well as a console generation skip, things weren't looking good. It may only be seven years, which is paltry compared to others on this list, to all concerned it was a long seven years.

And yes, you could argue that the delay and switch to the PS4 doesn't look like it really paid off. It looks as dated as it plays, in that it probably could have come out sooner on the PS3 for all the faff behind it.

But as mentioned above, I don't care. I'm just happy it did come out. As a swansong, they could have done better, though.
