9 Video Games You Never Thought You'd Get To Play

8. Team Fortress 2

Duke Nukem Forever
Valve

Considering the first Team Fortress started as mod based on Quake, it's impressive that it even warranted a sequel at all. But then, the same could be said for Counter-Strike, DayZ, etc...

Such was the success of the first one that Valve hired the original modders to work for them, as Team Fortress 2 was to be a new title developed by the company. However, it didn't exactly get rushed out of the door. First shown at E3 in 1999, anticipation was high off the back of Valve re-releasing the first game.

After announcing a second delay due to switching to a new engine, progress went silent from 2004 onward. Barring a glimpse of the new style and reassurance in 2006, fans were getting worried. Thankfully, the wait did pay off.

Included as part of the Orange Box compilation, TF2 went on to rave reviews and a once-proud player base of fifty million players.

Again, that it came from a mod to unbridled success only to go dark for a while had players worried for a while. That it smashed those expectations could only be a good thing.
