9 Video Games You Never Thought You'd Get To Play

7. Prey (2006)

Duke Nukem Forever
2K Games

The now-defunct Prey 2, the one that followed a space bounty hunter, is a go-to example of a hotly anticipated game stuck in limbo before finally having its life support unplugged. Yet did you know the first game, 2006's Prey suffered an equally prolonged development cycle?

That's right, it took eleven years and three different studios to bring the gravity-defying shooter to life. Starting in 1995 with 3D Realms (of Duke Nukem fame), it went through several iterations before ending up in the hands of Human Head Studios.

Eventually published by 2K Games, it was staggering to see how much the game had changed from its original concept.

It still retained the Native American influence, whilst the focus was on the exploration in space and the mind-boggling physics and portal technology. Remember, this was before Valve came along with Portal, so our minds weren't prepared for this.

That the series somewhat thrived to even get mention of a sequel is a testament to the original's long development. Whilst the 2017 reboot failed to set the world alight, the first game is still a testament to perseverance.
