Assassin's Creed 2017: 10 Time Periods We Want To See
9. The Crusades (Again)
In many ways, the first Assassin’s Creed is the best one. Serving as an introduction to the Assassin Order, hunting down your targets through the war-ravaged Holy Land, and slowly drip-feeding the player all sorts of information about the Templar/Assassin conflict.
The one thing I think it didn’t do justice, at least in comparison to more recent games, was the setting: The Crusades.
Where Ezio and his games could boast about their rich and detailed world that actually taught players about the history and events in the world, The Crusades were undoubtedly just a backdrop to tell a story. And that’s fine.
But with so many different events and plots spanning the many holy crusades and the various attempts to reclaim the holy land, it’s hard not to imagine the possibilities a more modern style Assassin’s Creed could create. You have the interesting architecture and various stonework structures to climb, and even the characters and assassin order already built into the world, so why not?
