Assassin's Creed 2020: 8 Improvements Fans Need To See
3. All The Choice, Or None Of It
When a game is trying to emulate classics like Mass Effect or the Witcher, it's got a pretty massive legacy to live up to, so, when we first heard that Assassin's Creed was going to be following this path, we were sceptical to say the least.
Unfortunately, it seems our scepticism wasn't totally misplaced, as, unlike the greats mentioned above, Odyssey fails on the most important front when it comes to making choices: making you care.
Other than the choice of whether or not to kill members of your family (as well as a couple of cultists), none of the dialogue options really felt impactful, which isn't helped whatsoever by the fact that the novel detailing the story of the game contains the definitive story, making whatever you choose in the game redundant outside of this entry in the series.
Furthermore, any romantic choices also felt really throwaway, again with only a few exceptions (the most notable of which of course being the one involving Daphnae), but as one of the staples of this type of game it is, well, disappointing.
So, really, the only solution is to either revert the style of storytelling back to that of Origins, or go all in on the choice-based dialogue and bring it up to the standard of other, similar titles. Whichever path is taken though, it can only benefit the franchise, not to mention improving all of the factors mentioned in the last three points, at least, that's what we hope.
