Assassin's Creed 4: 10 Things We Want To See

5. A Break From Formula

Despite each new AC title adding a little more for the player to do than it's predecessor, you can't exactly say there's ever been a huge break from the formula that Ubisoft themselves assembled for the original Assassin's Creed game. Don't get me wrong, as formulas go, it's a pretty good one, but even though that's the case, I can't help but feel it's starting to get a little bit tired at this point, especially since AC III promised a gaming revolution and delivered...well, a great game, but not quite as unique as its marketing campaign would have led you to believe. Hopefully, Assassin's Creed 3 will break from this formula or at least go off-piste enough to provide something we've never actually experienced before (naval battles went a little way towards this, and were admittedly awesome, but couldn't help feel a little tacked on when I really think about it). This'd be easy, should AC IV be set in present day for example, replacing the standard 2-up-2-down structure of the cities with skyscrapers and office blocks and the sword wielding foes to guards with automatic weaponry. However, you might not want to old your breath on this on; Ubisoft's AC formula has made them a whole hell of a lot of money in the past and I struggle to see them wanting to abandon it any time soon.
