Assassin's Creed Odyssey: 10 Reasons It's The Best In The Series
4. Combat Abilities Are A Fantastic Addition
By far one of the best additions to Odyssey is the brand new combat abilities.
To put it simply, combat wouldn't be the same without these abilities. Odyssey does away with any focus on realism and instead allows Alexios or Kassandra to light their weapons on fire, disappear in a puff of smoke or kick people off cliffs.
Assassin's Creed has always a bit of a problem when it came to combat being too simplistic, and Origins was no different, even with a completely redesigned combat system. Having these abilities means that aggression is actively encouraged and you don't spend ages just waiting to counter an enemy.
Combine this with some genuinely difficult enemies and it means that Odyssey is at its most fun when you're actually fighting. It's not often you can say that about an Assassin's Creed game.
The only time that this falters is during the massive battles, but they can still be fun in their own power-fantasy way.
