Following on from having real locations as the setting for the series, it makes sense for the Creed games to have the actual historical figures of the time running around as well. It just adds a bit of extra context to the game - and it's also interesting to view an alternate universe where some of the most influential people of the time were themselves influenced by the Assassin-Templar war.

Brotherhood gave us a few of these, including the previously mentioned Borgia family - it also let Ezio interact with Leo da Vinci again, and Niccolo Machiavelli (above), which not only makes sense for the time period, but also makes sense for the plot, since Machiavelli literally wrote the book on using sneaky tactics.

There's plenty of scope for Syndicate to carry on this tradition - Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Brunel, Charles Dickens were all around - it will be fascinating to see who makes an appearance and how they're affected by the conflict.
