Assassin's Creed: Valhalla - 10 Real-Life Viking Legends Who Should Appear
8. Harald Fairhair
Also familiar to fans of Vikings, Harald Fairhair is purported to have been the first king of Norway, although there is still some dispute about this as reliable details of his life are very sketchy. The earliest written accounts date from 300 years after his reign.
His name is said to come from a vow he made not to cut his hair until he had conquered all of Norway, in order to win the love of the princess Gyda. When he could finally trim his tangled locks, he celebrated with a new nickname!
Harald had between 11 and 20 sons, according to different accounts, and much of his later years were taken up with settling the various disputes between them. When he died, he passed on his title to his favourite, the equally famous Erik Bloodaxe.
