Assassin's Creed: Victory - 10 Key Features That Need An Overhaul

9. 'Anyone Can Be An Assassin' - Different Animations For Different Characters

Part of being an Assassin (assumedly) is to be the all-seeing, all-hidden-bladed badass the world has only heard of in whispers. Most of that comes in every facet of your placement in the world, and it's worth pointing out that Ubisoft have gotten remarkably lax when it comes to who can be an assassin. If you look at someone like Edward Kenway, although he was a fun character there's no reason why he's animating and controlling like the other, far more regimented heroes of the past. It feels like essentially anyone can be an assassin, with Unity's Arno essentially acquiring the requisite skills overnight after spending some time within the same air as an established killer. In the intro to the whole game and the city itself you're asked to scale incredibly high structures with little to no dialogue from Arno or the characters as to why that's an appropriate thing to do - there's no believability and it ends up as a fast-track to just letting you get back to where the previous game left off. Each character should feel like a different personality through and through, with this reflecting on how they take on board the core teachings of the Order itself. Edward Kenway should have been more rough and tumble in his executions, Arno more cautious and slowly more vicious as the story dictated - not all the same for the sake of getting another game out the door.
