Batman: Arkham Insurgency - 9 Things It Must Learn From City
4. Truly Brilliant Boss Battles
The Arkham series has always had a shaky relationship with boss battles, but City was by far the best they've ever been.
More imaginative than the lame tank fights in Knight and less repetitive than fighting constant hulking menaces in Aslyum, the second game in the series gave players the chance to face off against iconic villains from the superhero's rogues gallery in excellent themed boss battles.
Constantly switching up the flow of gameplay depending on who you were fighting, the Mr. Freeze stealth section has gone down as one of the most memorable parts of the entire franchise, while other imaginative sections like the Ra's al Ghul showdown were similarly effective.
With the other games it often felt as though the developers threw boss encounters into the mix simply because they thought they were obliged to, but City sticks out as the entry where the studio was clearly trying to focus on making the boss battles as good as they could be.
Whatever Insurgency turns out to be then, it should either return to the style of the second game's set-piece fights or just throw them away entirely.
