Batman: Arkham Knight - 12 Superhero Franchises Rocksteady Must Tackle Next
5. Daredevil
In many ways Daredevil is the most natural successor to Rocksteady's Batman games. As a crimefighter his skills are evenly matched with that of the Caped Crusader's, and his sonar vision is simply begging for a Splinter Cell/Detective Mode hybrid form of its own. Combined with some of the richest lore to ever grace the pages of a comic book, and you have the perfect recipe for a title based on the adventures of Matt Murdock. Daredevil certainly has the most potential for narrative success than any other character - comic book heavyweights from Frank Miller to Brian Michael Bendis and Ed Brubaker have all had a hand in creating the Daredevil we know and love today, and there's a very good reason as to why his stories are so revered - something which the TV adaptation has endeavoured to emulate rather successfully as well. On top of a markedly different and interesting concept for a character (Murdock is one of the few characters in the medium to fight with a physical disability), Daredevil's tragic storylines would make for an emotional project unlike any other, and would really challenge Rocksteady to pen a tale about a character who overcomes adversity far more often than their beloved Dark Knight has ever done - and under increasingly strenuous circumstances to boot. Old Horn-Head's newfound popularity as a result of the aforementioned Netflix series has propelled the Hell's Kitchen vigilante into the spotlight of the general public, and it'd be mad not to take advantage of it, especially after Rocksteady have already shown their skills with escrima sticks before.
WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well.
In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
