Batman: Arkham VR - 10 Big Things We Already Know

1. It (Probably) Takes Place Before Arkham Knight

Given the monumental zinger of an ending fans were treated to in Arkham Knight, it's fair to assume that VR will be set prior to its events. Anything else would be fairly untenable, and considering the mixed reaction centred around Knight's plot, it's probably best that Rocksteady don't touch it with a ten foot barge pole. Or Bat pole. Take your pick.

The fact of the matter is that the Arkham continuity is a little... messy, so to speak. Prior to Arkham Origins at least, fans could quite easily envisage a timeline of comics-inspired events that took place in the Arkhamverse before Arkham Asylum. As dates were tossed around regarding Origins' setting, however, things became a little less streamlined. The Arkham timeline basically became the video game equivalent of a shared messy desk that no one could really be bothered to clean up.

Things were again thrown into convolution as a result of Knight's first DLC, entitled A Matter of Family. There, we were given a story from the perspective of Barbara Gordon, prior to her becoming paralysed at the hands of the Joker. It clearly took place a long while before Arkham Asylum, but Tim Drake was somehow Robin. Wait, if it takes place after Origins, and Origins is meant to take place five years before Asylum, does that mean Batman took on four sidekicks, lost one, had one die, recruited another, before having another get shot in action? All before Asylum? Man, that's a lot to chow down - even for a vigilante as ostensibly ineffective as Batman.

Clearly, much needs to be retconned. That's easily doable (just get rid of that silly date for Arkham Origins, please), but we still don't know just when VR is meant to take place. It's a big ol' complicated mess right now, but so are comics I guess, so maybe it's appropriate?

I don't know. Just tell us what Montreal are working on, Warner.
