Battlefield 1 Open Beta: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

Ups5. It Feels Like Classic Battlefield

Battlefield 1 Plane

One of the greatest things about Battlefield 1 so far, is that it feels extremely distinct from the last few games, and in many ways (more than its period setting) hearkens back to the nostalgic glory of the earlier titles, specifically the original Battlefield 1942.

The more down-to-Earth weapon and vehicle types and more simplified air combat make the game feel more focused on the thrill of combat rather than the bells and whistles that were introduced with each passing game (fun though they are), and that's definitely something to celebrate.

The aesthetic and "step backwards" won't be to all tastes, but for those who have been plugging away at the series since its inception, this is a welcome return to its roots, albeit with all the accouterments of contemporary gaming.
